  Industrial Training (IT) procedure

The industrial training program is so planned as to give the students a practical insight into the hospitality industry. The students are placed in the best properties through out the country for national perspective. The property may be a resort or a five star hotel.

An over view of Industrial Training (IT)

The IAST students need to undergo a six months industrial training in their second year to get a practical exposure of the hospitality industry. The students are expected to work in all the core functions such as housekeeping, food and beverage, front office and reception respectively. The students are selected for industrial training into various hotels, after initial screening of resumes by the hoteliers followed by a telephonic interview by the HR, or training managers of the hotels.  Also, depending on the HR policy followed by individual hoteliers, students may have to go through a personal interview process for industrial training placements. However, some properties may not require this formality.

Time frame of industrial Training and the exciting experience!

The students are preferably sent for six month training. Through the six month time frame the students get to experience the hectic as well as the lean season and the financial year end too. Most students are paid for the training period. The boarding and the lodging may or may not be taken care of by the hotel.

A student who performs well in the industrial training may end up with a pre placement offer. This is considered to be extremely prestigious and the student may not have to go through the placement process later on.

Internship (Field) project Report

The IAST students are required to submit an internship project in their third year curriculum as required by IGNOU. It is approximately a 20 hours project that is spread over a time period of one week. Students can chose to do the project in a hotel of their choice in any of the core subjects.

“My three year degree course in IAST was an absolutely amazing experience that has endowed me with great self-confidence. The learning environment was so positive and encouraging that I came out of my natural shyness and today I have improved my communication skills to a great extent.”
